Etsy Pricing & Profit: The Real Fee Math

A $20 sale on Etsy is not $20 in your pocket. Between listing fees, transaction fees, and payment processing, roughly 10โ€“15% disappears before you see it. Price with the real math, or the fees price you.

Every Etsy fee, on one table

FeeAmountWhen
Listing fee$0.20Per listing, every 4 months or on renewal
Transaction fee6.5% of item price + shippingEvery sale
Payment processing~3% + $0.25 (US; varies by country)Every sale
Offsite Ads fee12โ€“15% of the saleOnly if the sale came from an offsite ad

On a $20 US sale with no ad involved: $0.20 + $1.30 (6.5%) + $0.85 (3% + $0.25) โ‰ˆ $2.35 in fees โ€” about 12%. Your real revenue is ~$17.65 before materials, time, and shipping.

The $0.25 trap: payment processing includes a fixed $0.25 per order. On a $3 digital download, that's over 8% by itself. Cheap items need volume to survive โ€” or higher prices.

The one-line pricing rule

If you can't state your profit per sale after all fees in one sentence, you haven't priced the product yet โ€” you've guessed. Do the math once per product; it takes two minutes and it compounds.
